Life-Saving Project Improves Conditions for IDPs in Hays District, Al Hudaydah Governorate

 

Nahda Makers Organization #NMO has successfully concluded the implementation of a life-saving project aimed at addressing the urgent Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and the most vulnerable families in Hays District, Al Hudaydah Governorate, with generous support from the Yemen Humanitarian Fund #YHF.

The project targeted four IDP sites in the district: Dhami, Al Nuzali, Wedn Abdullah, and Al Magasha, through a set of critical interventions that significantly improved living conditions and reduced health risks. Key activities included:

  • Construction of 148 emergency latrines in the targeted IDP sites.
  • Establishment and rehabilitation of 16 water distribution points, connected through 1,800 meters of pipeline.
  • Provision of 1,260,000 liters of safe, clean, and chlorinated drinking water for a period of 90 days.
  • Implementation of 3 cleaning campaigns, during which 720 cubic meters of solid waste were collected.
  • Execution of health awareness campaigns over a three-month period.
  • Distribution of 348 hygiene kits to the targeted households.

The closing ceremony of the project was attended by several local officials and stakeholders, including:

  • Mr. Jamal Mahmoud Abdulrahman Al-Mashra’i, Director General of the Executive Unit in Al Hudaydah Governorate
  • Mr. Hamid Ahmed Omar Al-Khazaan, Director General of the Rural Water Projects Authority in Al Hudaydah
  • Mr. Ayash Mohammed Ayash Baheydar, Director General of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in Al Hudaydah
  • Mr. Ali bin Ali Saeed Zuhair, Secretary-General of the Local Council in Hays District
  • Mr. Abdullah Ahmed Salem Hudeib, Director General of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in Hays District
  • Mr. Ibrahim Nasser Anini Mashhoor, Executive Unit Officer in Hays District
  • Mr. Abdulquddus Hamad Ali Hussein Hadhari, NGO Affairs Officer in Hays District

This project, which benefited 1,916 individuals, stands as a model of effective humanitarian interventions that respond to urgent needs and create tangible impacts in improving the quality of life for IDPs. It also contributes to strengthening community resilience and building a healthier, more stable environment.
